Summer 2019

I hope everyone is having a great summer! Thank you Calgary for a successful convention using the shorter format. I will be sending out a short survey to convention attendees to get a sense of what everyone thought. This survey will be out shortly.

I am so excited to be your President and I hope to have a lot to share with you over this year. If you can’t tell already, I love our refreshed logo and have truly embraced it. Part of being a professional association is making sure we are branding ourselves properly. If you’re interested in the color theme for our new logo (that you can develop in Canva, Word etc). please reach out to me. I have also created a new signature for CAIW that also has links to our social media sites. It is easy to copy and paste and even put your local association logo into.

The survey and Forum seemed to generate a lot of excitement and I am thrilled to share the Forum results (the survey results have been shared a few weeks earlier). We had excellent discussion and I encourage you to read through it all (as it might give you ideas for your own association) as well as discuss at a monthly meeting soon so that all members can understand what this year will be focussed on. I also shared my speech from Convention at the same time as the survey results so that those not at convention could hear my theme for this year (sorry – I should have done a Facebook live of this as well, because I would be interested in hearing myself speak French!).

Part of what people want to see are results and that your discussion and participation in
surveys does not go unnoticed and that you can see things change. Well I can tell you
that each of you has inspired me and I already have ideas that I am implementing and/or will be discussing with your Directors. Some of these are:

  • Ensuring First timers at Convention are prepared by sending a welcome letter and contact information for questions to their Directors
  • Once getting the list of delegates/alternates reaching out to them to ensure they are aware they have this responsibility so there is no confusion.
  • Creating a “Socializer” role where a member of each local association will be part of the National Social Media/Website committee to increase the number and quality of posts
  • Encouraging all Associations to send in at least 2 educational/ insurance content or articles that will be posted on LinkedIn and our website so that we increase our content
  • Created share.caiw.acfa@gmail.com where ALL members can email educational content, suggestions on members or association events that we can profile on social media, other ideas on education, mentoring or social media
  • Future surveys to come out, trying to encompass suggestions from Forum
  • Creating a fun points based challenge amongst Associations to encourage website content, increased members on Facebook and survey responses (more info to come)

Last, but certainly not least, we welcome the Ontario Insurance Professional’s Association as the newest association to join CAIW. Thank you Lori Penner, for working on this project through her Presidency so that it could come to fruition. Director, Andrea Hadlington has been hard at work putting together an Executive and they are very excited to have their first meetings and events. If you have associates that may be interested please reach out to her. Andrea will attend midterms and we will get to welcome OIPA to the fold at convention in 2020!

Thank you for inspiring me, and know that I will support you in moving forward. CAIW is a sum of all of its parts, so I welcome all ideas to continue to unite our membership and hear everyone’s voice.

Yours in fellowship,
